Play a game of “I Spy” with this unconventional mural located at the I-44 Welcome Center, just southwest of Joplin. Created by artist Matthew Dehaemers, the layout of the mural was inspired by vintage postcard designs, as well as classic road trip travel games like the license plate game. Matthew incorporated images of the people, history, and natural resources of the Joplin area. The result is a visual puzzle, piquing the curiosity of those who observe it. Who’s the astronaut in the space suit? That’s Carthage native Dr. Janet Kavandi. Here’s a challenge: Can you spy the outlaw, Clyde Barrow?
