Heartstrings of America
This poignant mural represents the outpouring of kindness that found its way to our city after the May 2011 tornado. It was created as part of the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition project that came to Joplin to rebuild some of our homes that were destroyed in the storm. This part of the project included carving a giant wooden map of America and then having volunteers hammer nails over their hometowns, using colored string to connect their nails to the one centered in Joplin. The mural shows how people came together from all around the country - and even the world - to assist in the recovery of our town. Open to the public Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
